It's probably fair to assume that I deduced that it was not Clover who cold-called George W with the invitation to come to town. My real complaint/rant (call it what you will) is the fact that not a single objection has come from the mayor's office about the disruption being caused by this event. The only news out of her office that I have seen in the press in the last week or so is the call the ease licencing laws so Sydney can copy Melbourne's trendy bar culture. That's great if you know how good Melbourne's bar culture actually is but doesn't really address the issue that her city is being shutdown for a week because John H has friends coming over. Take a stand Clover! Represent your constituency! Perhaps suggest that maybe Hayman Island or Uluru might make more appropriate locations...This is not a lesson in levels of Government but rather a reminder that Clover has some responsibility to the people of Sydney. At least be seen to be standing up for their rights. I'd happily discuss this in a a little bar in a laneway in the city but I don't think I'd make it past the SWAT teams...

Dear 2020,

Before posting these rants, please take the time to learn the roles of different levels of Government. The Lord Mayor isn't responsible for APEC.

Get it right before you complain.

Did he say "Found a good dry cleaner, on my pants I get a bUCK OFF!!"?

Why persecute someone for their enthusiasm about laundry discounts?

Yes Coles and Woolies get better trading terms, as they should, but note that their perception of value has been significantly impaired. The EDLP campaign has lost ammunition. The net effect is to bring IGA and other independents into the picture as real and viable alternatives. Metcash is still in store rollout mode. That coupled with the potential to pick up some Coles stores as part of the sale of Coles should improve their bargaining position.

Agree they've done a good job... but the biggest problem facing indepenedent retailers is the lack of uniformity and disciplines at store level. they're stuck between a localisation strategy and a chain all stores the same approach. Also Coles and Woolies invariable get better trading terms from suppliers due to their ability to drive volume based deals on scan sales immediatly and implement fast results for big brands. Hence the greatest challenge for metcash is to fight the duopsony pressure of Coles & WOW.
